Background
1. Canada's housing shortage is a leading cause of our affordability crisis.
2. Municipal regulations have strangled Canada’s housing supply.
3. Building more market rate housing reduces housing costs and is crucial for broad affordability
4. Urban sprawl is fiscally and environmentally unsustainable.
Our Goals
1. Row houses, multiplexes and low-rise apartments should be permitted in all neighbourhoods as-of-right.
2. Mid-rise and high-rise apartments should be permitted as-of-right within walking distance of frequent transit and major job centres.
3. Restrictions on setbacks, floorplate need to be relaxed and parking minimums abolished.
4. Municipalities should not charge onerous fees on new high-density housing.
5. Higher orders of government need to step in and intervene as municipalities are not making necessary reforms in a timely manner.
6. We need more deeply affordable housing, but to achieve sufficient scale requires funding from provincial and federal governments.
7. Reform public consultation.
